Intermediate Course In Chinese Medicine (Herbal)

(27 weekend classes, 4 hours each = 108 contact hours)

Prerequisites: Completion of Basic Chinese Medicine (Herbal) Program, or equivalent

 

Course Outline

Theory II (30 contact hours)

 

  • Chinese Medical Theory II -- TThis course builds upon Chinese Medical Theory I and merges the theories of Yin and Yang, Qi and Blood, and Organ functions with the causes of disease, the functions of the five organs and six bowels (Zang/Fu), extra organs, patterns of imbalance in the body, diagnosis and identification of patterns of disease according to Six Stages, Four Layers and Triple Burner.

  • The Five Zang Organs -- The Five Zang (Yin)  (Liver, heart, kidney, lung, spleen).

  • The Six Fu Bowels -- The Six Fu (Yang) (Gallbladder, small intestine, bladder, large intestine, stomach, triple burner).

  • Extra Organs -- Sometimes called extra, odd or strange organs, the brain, Marrow, Uterus, Bone and Gallbladder are mostly understood to have their own functions in the body.

  • The Six stages-- (Disease due to cold invasion) This theory developed through the understanding of  how disease manifest  when the body is invaded by cold.

  • The Four Layers -- Wei,Qi,Ying, Xue (blood) are viewed as different layers were disease manifest when the body is invaded by heat. 

  • The Sanjiao/ Triple Burner -- Viewed as an organ without form which transports and transforms fluids and regulates warming the body.

  • Other pathogenic factors

  • Listening and Smelling

  • Feeling

Chinese Diagnosis II ( 5 Contact Hours)

Chinese Medical Diagnosis II Prerequisite: Chinese Medical Diagnosis I

  • According to the Eight Principles

  • According to the Zang-fu Organs

  • According to the Six Channels

  • According to the Four Stages: Wei,Qi,Ying, Xue (blood)

  • According to the Sanjiao/triple burner.

  • According to the Eight extra Channels.

 

Materia Medica II & III ( 62 Contact Hours)

Precautions

Materia Medica II, Prerequisite: Materia Medica I. This course will cover more categories and will show students how to weigh, dose and prepare Chinese medicinals.

Materia Medica III, Prerequisite: Materia Medica I, II, Students will learn the method of combining Chinese Medicinals and introduce Chinese Patent Formulas, desiccated extracts.

Diseases, This course will cover the treatment of some of the most common Chinese medical diseases (symptoms/patterns).

Patterns of imbalance Known as the bridge between diagnosis and treatment, students will learn the most common patterns.

Treatment principles  Treatment principles are the stated/written way in which one goes about developing a treatment plan, etc.
